Programs Available this Summer:
Intensive Reading Summer Camp
This camp will provide an intensive but fun reading and spelling program for elementary children who are reading below grade level. Activities will focus on reading decoding, reading fluency, spelling and reading comprehension. The LiPS (Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing) program will be used, along with other techniques to improve reading and spelling skills.
There will be one 6-week session, from June 13 July 22, meeting Monday-Thursday from 9:00-12:00.
Goals of the program:
- To strengthen the underlying skills that are the foundation for success in reading and spelling
- To improve ability to decode (read) unfamiliar words
- To improve ability to read words by sight
- To increase reading fluency (rate and accuracy)
- To improve reading comprehension
Why an intensive program?
Research has shown that children who participate in intensive programs make more progress in a shorter amount of time. A daily program allows your child to move ahead with less review at each session than is necessary in a weekly session. It is important for your child to attend the full session to receive maximum benefit.
How can I tell if my child will benefit?
Call the Center for Speech & Language at 407-299-1533 to arrange a screening of your child's reading and language skills OR send us information from your child's school or another source documenting your child's reading level.
